I bought a complete Wal bass some 20 years ago and it was missing the neck and one of the pick ups. Now I am planning to restore it and make it as great as those basses I played on in guitar shops, yes they were Wals. Mine is P.B. 1279 and it is in black with two pick ups and preamp. Earlier today I found out that it was built in 1978. I have had a problem to finding a neck for it but now I decided that I will have it done to its former glory.Ollie Ahokashttp://www.olaviahokas.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7002087831029217694.post-41012773448365856782017-07-18T22:31:16.508+01:002017-07-18T22:31:16.508+01:00In the early 90s I interviewed Roger Newell about ...In the early 90s I interviewed Roger Newell about his time with Rick Wakeman's English Rock Ensemble. Following the demise of the ERE in late 1976 due to Wakeman's financial difficulties at the time, Newell asked him 'What about the triple neck?' Wakeman told him he could have it for £1,000 - a huge amount at the time. Whilst Newell would have loved to have kept it, faced with no immediate job he said he needed that money to survive so passed up on the offer. Survive he did going on to play for Marty Wilde for many years.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12888729089940714956noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7002087831029217694.post-85798490279492224282017-03-04T09:10:39.341+00:002017-03-04T09:10:39.341+00:00Hi. I had previously been in a few bands and played a Pro 1E (which, sadly, I had to sell before starting photography). I did a 2-year college course in photography and one project was to find a company and offer to do a brochure for them. I loved (and missed) my WAL so I contacted the company and they were keen so I got a friend to drive me to High Wycombe to meet Pete and Ian. I spoke mostly with Pete and he was really nice to me. (I seem to remember he let me have a go on the midi bass which they were trying out in the workshop). After talking about what they needed from a brochure (which became a flyer), specifying the shot of the electronics etc, they promptly handed me a few basses to take away! I expected them to ask for some kind of deposit but they were happy for me to keep them for a week or so while I got the shots done at college. It was a bit of a learning experience for me so the shots could definitely be improved upon. I vaguely remember doing the white numbers on the electronics shot with Letraset. I took the transparencies and electronics print to a print shop where they put it all together and the company paid for the print job. It was fantastic experience and Pete and Ian were very kind to me.
